Natalie Portman is an influential women who is using her one and only social media platform in an inspiring way. She has chosen to utilize her popularity to spread awareness and gain followers to join her against sexual harassment in the workplace. Portman is specifically spreading awareness for the “Time’s Up” movement, which is working to end sexual harassment and abuse in all industries. The intended audience is everyone, but specifically she is focused on making those who are unaware of the movement knowledgeable about the unfair acts regarding sexual harassment that are currently taking place in many industries. She is aiming to educate and inspire people to join the “Time's Up” movement, whether they have knowledge on the initiative or not. The kind of text that she uses to convey this message is her instagram account. She posts images regarding the “Time’s Up” movement and images to empower women.
Natalie Portman is presenting herself to be an advocate and educator on the topic of sexual harassment and inequality in the workplace. She does this by choosing to post images that are informative and interesting on this topic. The images she posts display her advocacy for the “Time’s Up” movement and offer the reader/audience more information on the initiative. This image that Portman posted offers a link to a fund that allows the viewer to join the “Time’s Up” movement that she is supporting. Portman further displays her purpose to inform and encourage the empowerment of women by posting photos that are not just about her, but that showcase women's rights as well. She posted a photo of herself and another women filmmaker and conveyed her support for women in male dominated industries by commenting on the photo, “Directing my first feature, A Tale of Love and Darkness, in Jerusalem with my fierce first AD, Shir Shoshani #femalefilmmakerfriday (Portman).” Her use of the “femalefilmakerfriday” hashtag raises awareness to the sensitive topic of women being able to hold powerful positions and roles. I believe that Portman chooses to only post images with meaning in order to present herself in a mature way, showcasing that she truly is serious about being an advocate and activist for equal treatment of people in the workforce. Portman appeals to logos, pathos, and ethos in her posts to help gain support for the “Time’s Up” movement. She utilizes logos and pathos by posting photos with facts about sexual harassment and inequality in industries, such as the image she posted about why she wore black to the Golden Globes. Posts like this help her audience gain knowledge on the “Time’s Up” movement, and touch her audience’s emotions by stating facts about a sensitive topic. Personally, many of Portman’s posts, such as one with an influential quote, did make me feel emotional about the issue of sexual harassment and encouraged me to want to help raise awareness about this issue. In addition, Portman displays herself as a credible source about the topic of sexual harassment and inequality in the workforce by posting a video of herself giving a speech at the Women’s March of 2018. By utilizing these techniques she further reveals herself as a supporter and reliable educator on the topic of the “Time’s Up” movement and inequality in industries. I believe that Natalie Portman’s use of her instagram account is a revolutionary way to raise awareness for a global issue. Since a vast majority of the world has an instagram account and is always up to date with social media, Portman’s use of her account as a way to share information and gain support for the “Time’s Up” initiative is a genius way to educate the public and present herself as a credible advocate for such a powerful movement.

The only thing I would recommend adding, is why she would chose Instagram as her one and only social media platform. Is there is a message she is trying to convey by making this choice?
