The Wikipedia page for Disneyland features an abundance of information that can be useful to anyone interested in learning more about this magical place. This Wikipedia page uses many different conventions to build its credibility and reliance.
In general, the purpose of Wikipedia is to inform its audience on certain topics and offer general knowledge on a subject in an accessible and easy to navigate format. The Wikipedia page for Disneyland serves the purpose of informing its readers of all things related to Disneyland. It offers information regarding the park itself, the different lands it features, tickets, and information regarding the history and creation of the park. The audience is anyone interested in visiting the park, learning more about what the park has to offer, or interested in the history. I know this is the audience because of the wide variety of information that the article presents. This Wikipedia page emphasizes rhetorical appeals and builds its credibility by including a plentiful amount of information related to the different subtopics related to Disneyland. The detailed facts on this page appeal to logos and are cited with a list of reliable references at the bottom of the page. An example from the text showing its appeal to logos with specific references and facts is when it mentions, “Disneyland has a larger cumulative attendance than any other theme park in the world, with over 650 million guests since it opened. In 2013, the park hosted approximately 16.2 million guests, making it the third most visited park in the world that calendar year.” This statement presented reveals specific information about Disneyland that the general audience would not have known before reading, which adds to the reliability of the article. This article also features the use of tables and graphs, another appeal to logos, to display how the price of admission has changed every year from 1981 to 2018. The fact that this Wikipedia page shows its viewers the specific price every year for such a wide range of years, including the most recent price in 2018, adds to the credibility of the page, by proving how knowledgeable the writers and editors of this page are. This page also includes pictures with detailed captions, further showing how knowledgeable the authors of this page are. For example, the picture of the Haunted Mansion has the caption, “The Haunted Mansion's antebellum architecture is styled as a Southern plantation home.” This caption mentions detailed information that is not commonly known to the public, therefore adding to the credibility of the authors and the page. This caption also features a hyperlink, linking to another Wikipedia page where the reader can learn more information regarding the architecture of the building, thereby adding to the reliability of the article. The use of images also appeals to pathos. These images, of both historic and current Disneyland, draw in the reader and entice the audience to learn more about the image and the information related to that picture. Overall, this page is effective in establishing credibility and offers a reliable source for information about Disneyland. I feel that this Wikipedia page does accomplish its purpose of informing its audience about Disneyland and sub topics related to Disneyland, such as the history and the different locations within the park. This page is credible, as it offers an abundance of information that the public doesn’t commonly know, and it presents specific facts that offer in depth analysis of the subtopics related to Disneyland, such as the first opening day and the history of the park’s creation. Due to the fact that there are so many different topics addressed in this page all related to Disneyland, and the fact that they all offer a variety of information with specific references to other articles and sources, proves the reliability of this Wikipedia page.

I like how you specified the audience based on what the page was about (which you briefly summarized). I think that your analysis of the appeals was good but it might have helped the reader if they were separated into paragraphs and had transitions from each. Your conclusion supported your introduction and pulled the piece together nicely. Overall, I think that you succeeded in conveying the conventions of Wikipedia through the analysis of appeals. I think that you could talk more about the formatting conventions of Wikipedia and specify how all this information is organized on the page. Other than that, great job!

Hey Jacquelin! I found your RAB very informative. It was easy and interesting to read. I never realized how much detail is in the Disneyland Wikipedia page. I enjoyed how you addressed the purpose of Wikipedia and why Disneyland has a Wikipedia page. Your paragraph about logos had great points. I liked how you included a hyperlink to specific tables and graphs from the article. The quotes you included were relevant and supported your ideas about how it creates creditability. The facts also helped create creditability. You could have elaborated more about how the rhetorical appeal of pathos is present in the use of pictures. Overall, great job!

Hi Jacquelin! I love that you picked Disneyland, as it has so much information on it currently and historically. I think that you did a good job of addressing the data on the park such as ticket prices and attendance rates in a great detail. It also helped that you hyperlinked certain pictures and graphs along with the text. Your RAB is very informative; however, I would recommend breaking the third paragraph up into two, and discussing the format of the wikipedia page a bit more. Why does it bring up the history before current facts? Besides that, this is a great informative piece!
